TRANSITIONS THREE

Are you ready for another transitional outfit? I am alternating between dresses and jeans. This one does have some fall color.  I know you will not be surprised that I added a belt and a sweater.  I only have so much imagination when it comes to disguising my figure flaws, and this combination seems to work pretty well.

I don’t remember where I got this dress, but pretty sure it was from Ross for about $12.00. The sweater is a $5.00 WalMart item. I will show you how I got to the outfit I will actually wear.

  1. Try on the dress:

2. Add a belt and a necklace:

3. Add a sweater, a bracelet and some cute shoes:

Of course, I will have to wear it in an air-conditioned place, but that’s okay. I am not going outside again until it cools off!

TRANSITIONS TWO

Well, it is 96 degrees today. Maybe I should just get my summer clothes back out! But I can’t.  My brain knows that it is “after Labor Day.”  So here is another outfit I plan to wear to pretend like it is fall. Not exactly fall colors, but not too summery.

I am posting this next photo to show you that shoe choices matter.  I knew the blue shoes would not look good, but I just had to try. When I saw the picture, I laughed, because it looks ridiculous. I guess the lesson is, “Don’t match your shoes to your shirt”, but maybe that is only if they are a bright color!

These pictures also illustrate the fact that you need to iron your clothes if they have wrinkles!

One more point: This is really just some jeans and a shirt. In the past, I would not have even thought to add a necklace and bracelet. I am posting this to show you that if you add some bling, you can make jeans and a shirt look like an outfit.

See you soon with some more “hot fall” clothes.

TRANSITIONS ONE

Today I am beginning a series about transitioning from summer to fall. As I said before, I am SO tired of hot weather, and just do not want to wear summer clothes anymore. BUT, it is actually hotter than it was in July, so I need to find outfits that look fallish, but feel summerish. You know what I mean.

I bought this little dress for $6.00 from my secret shopping website, that I will tell you about one day 😉      I feel like that needs a separate blog post!

Here is what it looked like when I tried it on:

Most people would just say, “Well, I am glad I only paid $6.00 for this, because it looks terrible.”  But by now, you know I will do my best to “make an outfit”.

I really like this, and it is cool and comfortable, and does not look summery.  What do you think?

IF IT’S BROWN……

Years ago, I made up a little saying for my husband to use when he went shopping by himself.  I felt like this was necessary, because sometimes he would bring home clothing that was…how can I put this?…..downright UGLY. I finally figured out that he did not look good in brown, so I taught him to say, “If it’s brown, put it down” and “If it’s blue, it will do.” His wardrobe choices have improved dramatically since he learned these phrases, but occasionally he will rebel and come home with something in the forbidden color. LOL

I am telling you this because today I am showing you a brown dress that I bought.

When I tried this dress on, I thought it was so cute. But as I am fond of saying, my fashion journey is full of trial and error, which is why I don’t like to buy expensive clothes. I tried my best to make it look good. I really did.  I don’t like to make mistakes. BUT….I just have to admit…..I don’t like it!  And I am long past the age and stage where I will wear something I don’t like just because I bought it.

To be honest, it is not just the color.  I just don’t think the dress is very flattering. Ladies, this is why the camera is your friend. It will tell you things that the dressing room mirror will not say. The mirror might say, “Only $14.99, and you look so cute in this!  Buy it!”   But the camera will say, “It’s not a bargain if it doesn’t look good on you. What were you thinking??”

So bye bye brown dress.  I hope you enjoyed hanging out in my closet for a month.

I don’t really HATE brown, but maybe I should tell myself what I tell my husband:

“If it’s brown, put it down.”

Next post, I will show you some of the outfits that I do like!
