READERS’ REVISIONS

I know you had more than enough of my red WalMart dress, and I had no intention of bringing it back, but I got so many good suggestions from readers that I just had to try them out!

The reason I do this blog is to help other women figure out how to dress better, and the main way I do that is by showing my “experiments.” AND it is so great that you help me to improve my outfits.

Here is what I tried after reading your suggestions. I think you all hit the nail on the head. I had already figured out that my shoes were not flattering (even though they were cute), so I read what my readers wrote, and went back to the drawing board.

Let’s start with this one:

Shoes make a big difference!

Another suggestion from a reader—change out the necklace. Good idea!

And while I was at it, I tried this look:

Many people liked the red and turquoise combination, and I decided I did too. So I changed out the shoes again and tried a more delicate necklace:

Better, yes?

And thanks SO MUCH to faithful reader Jean, who reminded me about a pair of shoes that I had totally forgotten about! I had to search high and low, but finally found them waaaaay back in the closet.

And when I was looking for the shoes, I found this shawl thingie, so just had to try using it:

So what do you think? Don’t you think you gave me some good suggestions?

Thanks for all your help! And I promise you won’t be seeing this dress anymore for awhile. 😉

  1. Oh, wow! At first I was not a fan of the turquoise look (I’m not as brave as you are!), but with the more delicate necklace and shoes, I really, really like it! You go, girl! It’s easy for us to sit on the sidelines and critique people who are actually in the race. Thanks again for helping us learn from your experiments! You are really making a positive difference to us!

  2. Red, white and blue is a super choice when you worked out the details. So is the aqua/red with quieter accessories.

This was a fun exercise. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who ‘loses’ shoes.

Thank you again for encouraging making photos of our outfits. I saved myself from some really bad combos after I saw how mine REALLY looked. I’m learning much about what works for me.

Looking forward to the next installment.

  3. I love the new suggestions I’ve got to do the experimentation with a black flare dress from old navy. After I got it home it looked soooo bad. I need some color. Thanks for all the great ideas.

    1. Terrie, I think most plain dresses need a little something else…usually a top piece, but at least a colorful necklace.

  4. Susan, I love the Georgia Bulldog look of red and black! Also love the turquoise and red! Your diet is working. You look thin and healthy!

    1. Thanks, Cathy. I’m sure a lot of my friends will like the UGA colors….my husband, not so much. 😉 Still on Weight Watchers…and will be for awhile. Glad it is starting to be noticeable.

  5. You are so blessed to have such great readers, Susan. Outfit photos are a great tool and feedback so useful. I’m needing outfit help too but I’m guessing I won’t be so fortunate! Love the changes you’ve taken on board, so surprising what shoes can do. And you’ve now won me over with turquoise and red. A simple necklace and shoes switch has made such a difference. Stunning!

  6. I enjoyed seeing the revisions to your original styles, Susan. I love the red and turquoise combinations because I am a huge fan of those colors together. Really great post! Thanks so much for linking up with Fabulous Friday! Also, I am currently looking for co-hosts, so I hope you will consider the opportunity.
