Time to talk about vests again. Aren’t you glad?  This time I am going to show you some of the ideas that did not work, in addition to the looks I will actually wear. If you read this blog very often, you know that I am more than willing to share my mistakes with you. You’re welcome!

These ideas seemed good to me when I thought of them, and if I did not take pictures of most of my outfits before I wear them in public, I probably would have worn them. Some things are just better in your head. 😉

Here is one of the keepers:

Followed by “what was I thinking #1”:

Here’s a “maybe” …decided to work on it some more:

Definitely looks better this way, but still not exactly right:

Maybe it looks better without a vest:

Here is “what was I thinking #2”.  Hate the necklace and belt combo, hate the shoes. Navy dress with green vest sounds good in theory. May have to try again with this one.

Oops, here’s another one that just doesn’t work with the vest:

Much better this way:

So, there you have it. I’m sure you have seen enough of vests for awhile! But I hope this has inspired you to pull out that old vest in the back of your closet and try it on with some stuff.  Or go buy a new cute one!

Here is a montage of the good and the not-so-good from all 3 posts. I am showing you these so that you can see that putting outfits together is trial and error.

Please comment and tell me which is the best and which is the worst. I promise not to wear anything you hate. 🙂 I am voting for Number 15!

You will just have to imagine that the first outfit is number one and go from there. The collage maker I have will not let me add text without paying to upgrade to the premium version, and you all know I am cheap.

I would love for you to follow me on Instagram @over50under20

Back soon with more inexpensive outfits for the older generation 😉

  1. I like 4 and 8 the best! I bought a red vest this Fall because you wore some cute red vest outfit last year that I wanted to copy!

  2. Hi! I’m thinking 4 is my favorite! Really enjoyed all these vest posts cuz I’m a vest lover from way back! Glad I found u recently, keep up the good work! Cathy C from MI

  3. Personally I like a tunic length with a shorter vest so #4,5 & 6 fit that category. Not so crazy about
dress length with shorter vests although #7 is my fav in that category. Another comment would be
that leggings with dresses should be long enough to meet the booties for an elongated look, hope this
makes sense! I do love the red vest which really ‘pop’s on you. Of course I vote for #15 as the BEST &

    1. Hi Kay, I agree that the longer leggings look better, but every style blog I follow always shows the booties with ankles showing, so I am just trying to keep up with the style. 😉 And although I do love the look of a dress with a vest, it is not the best look for me. I really still love the look of a vest with jeans.

  4. By far my favorite is 15. What a cutie! Now someone that age and that cute looks good in everything! As far as your pictures, I love 4,6, 7, and 10. I am not a fan of leggings because of my fat knees. Every fall, I say I am going to wear them, and every fall I try them on and say “no, no I’m not”. You have convinced me to dig out my vests and buy a pair of short boots.

    1. Thank you, Nancy. I think I like #4 the best also. And I am a sucker for a plaid dress. I will definitely keep working on this one.

    1. Thanks, Joyce. I plan to get a lot of use out of these vests. They are perfect for traveling….don’t even need to take a purse.

  5. You have found the fountain of youth in number 15. I like my leggings to continue into boots to lengthen the leg. I love 4 and 10, they seem to pop.

We have had a cold snap and guess what, my first cool day I pulled out a vest and went hiking.

  6. #4
I would wear this…I was in Kohl’s yesterday. Vests were on sale for 40% off. Would make them about $20. Didn’t have time to look but going back today!

    1. Thanks, Cathy. May have to make a quick trip to Kohl’s. On second thought, I should probably just make do with the vests I already have!

  7. I prefer #4. I guess I associate vests with casual, cozy, outdoorsy fashion. That being said — I bought a dress and vest at Old Navy this week that I plan to wear to church Sunday. And of course I would never have bought that combo had I not seen it on your blog.
